EA Execs Refuse To Take Bonuses Due To Poor Fiscal Results

Andrew Wilson, the CEO of EA, along with other members of his team, have refused to take their performance bonuses due to the massive publisher having a poor fiscal year.

Wilson sat down for a candid interview with GameDaily on the state of play within EA and about the industry in general. Follow the link to read the full piece, it’s long but well worth your time.

In the interview Wilson spoke about how disappointed EA have been with 2019’s fiscal report. Over the previous few years EA have been pretty strong and even reported $5.15 billion for last year. Unfortunately for EA that number has dropped to $4.95 billion for the latest fiscal period.

The reasons for this drop in revenue is absolutely EA’s own doing. Battlefield V was poorly received and the debacle around Anthem rages on. Both these titles have left a bad taste in gamers mouths over the last year.

EA issued the following statement regarding the bonuses for Execs.

Given the Company’s 2019 financial performance, and in order to maintain alignment with our pay-for-performance executive compensation philosophy, our CEO and his staff (including the NEOs) requested that they receive no performance cash bonus award for fiscal 2019. “The Board (in the case of Mr. Wilson) and the Compensation Committee (in the case of the other NEOs) accepted this request. The bonus funding that would have been allocated to our CEO and his staff (including the NEOs) were contributed to the overall Company bonus pool.

EA have been pissing gamers off for awhile now and this drop in revenue is a direct reflection of that. EA titles are riddled with loot boxes and micro-transactions these days and people are getting really bloody tired of them at this stage.

EA are not the only ones guilty of this but they are, along with Activision, one of the worst publishers out there for over charging for nonsense in their games.

But what do you think gamers, do you really give a flying toss that Wilson and his team are taking this hit. Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have in the comments below.
