Fifa 21 Will Not Support Cross-Play Of Any Kind

Fifa 21 is due out on October 9 but it will not support cross-play of any kind, not even between the same family of consoles.

Fifa 21

As incredible as it sounds, considering that Fifa is one of the biggest sport franchises in the world. You won’t be able to play any of Fifa 21’s online modes with friends on different platforms. And I don’t mean, Xbox players can’t play with their friends on PC or PlayStation. I mean that if you buy a Xbox Series X later this year, you won’t be able to play with your mates that are playing it on the Xbox One. Same goes for PlayStation. Even though it’s exactly the same game.

This news comes to us thanks to a recent Tweet from the Fifa Direct Account where they answered a simple question regarding cross-play. The question asked was, “If I get a PS5, but my friend still has a PS4, will we be able to play FUT co-op together? (Same question for Xbox Series X and Xbox One). The answer amounts to a simple no. You can check out the Tweet yourself below.

Nonsense

This is unacceptable in this day and age. Fair enough if you don’t want to have cross-play between platforms. I say fair enough, but it’s still total nonsense. This is Fifa, not some indie game from a small dev team. But to deny players teaming up when they’re playing on the same family of consoles is ridiculous.

Allowing you to carry your FUT progress from the PS4 to PS5 and from the Xbox One to the Series X goes without saying. It’s the same game been played on the same account after all.

In my opinion, this is very lazy from EA. How they came to this decision is baffling. Maybe it has to do with the state of the world right now but we don’t know because they didn’t offer any explanation for it. It will basically split their player base into four separate parts on Xbox and PlayStation.

But what do you think. What console will you be picking up Fifa on later this year? Do you think that both cross-play and the ability to play across generations should be standard? Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have in the comments below.
