THQ Nordic Buys Saints Row Owner Koch Media

THQ Nordic has bought Koch Media in a deal worth €121 million. THQ Nordic has acquired a fair few studios and games for their cash, Koch Media owns, or did own, the publisher Deep Silver, who have the rights to the Metro franchise, Volition, the developer behind Saints Row and Dambuster Studios, the guys who brought us Homefront: The Revolution. Saints Row, Homefront: The Revolution and indeed Dead Island were all published by Deep Silver. In the case of Saints Row, Deep Silver took over the publishing rights from the original THQ back in 2013 when Saints Row IV was released.

I think it's fair to say that Deep Silver have had a pretty poor run of luck over the last few years. Homefront: The Revolution tanked at retail and they were the publisher behind Volition's Agents Of Mayhem, this game preformed so poorly that more than 30 members of Volition's staff were let go afterwards.

For THQ Nordic though the world has turned full circle. Back in 2013, when the original THQ was going through some very difficult times, Nordic Games stepped in and bought the THQ name along with a bunch of the companies IP's. These IP's included Darksiders, Red Faction and Titan Quest. A year later Nordic Games re-branded itself as THQ Nordic.

Both Saints Row and the Metro IP's were bought by Deep Silver at around the same time from THQ. Deep Silver also acquired Homefront from Crytek some time later. What this all means of course, is that Metro, Homefront and Saints Row are all once again the property of "THQ", which is kind of sweet.

I think this is a fantastic deal for Nordic Games. Metro: Exodus looks as though it might be one of the best games coming out in 2018 and more importantly for THQ Nordic, it looks as though it will sell by the bucket load. Saints Row and Homefront are solid franchises that just need a bit of TLC to bring out their full potential in my opinion. What THQ Nordic have bought for their €121 million is a lot of games with lots of promise and I think in years to come, this €121 million, will prove to be money very well spent.

What do you think folks, do you think this is a good deal for both THQ Nordic and games or do actually cares who develops and publishes the games you play. Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have in the comments below.
