Games With Gold – September

Here we go again people, new month means only one thing for all Gold members out there, more free games.  As always we have 2 free games for both the Xbox One and the 360.  Of course Xbox One players can also play the titles available for the 360 thanks to the wonder of Backwards Compatibility.

We will start with the games for the Xbox One and first up this month we have Earthlock: Festival Of Magic. This has being developed and published by Snowcastle games and is only set to be released tomorrow so we get it free straight of the bat. Earthlock is a turn based RPG, where you play as Amon as he joins up with many other unlikely heroes to try and save the beautiful world of Umbra, which for some reason has stopped spinning.

During your quest you will have to build strategies to help fight of the games bad guys, crafting of weapons and materials will also take a central role in your adventure as will the ability to customise your character and upgrade your skills as you progress through the games levels.  If you like your RPG's then Earthlock might be right up your street. Earthlock will be available for the entire month of September.

In China you take control of Shao Jun, who herself has been trained by the legendary Ezio from the second Assassin's Creed game, as she returns to her homeland to try get revenge against the Templar group "Eight Tigers" who have wiped out the Chinese brotherhood. China will be up for download from the 16th of September to the 15th of October.

First up on the good old 360 this month is the brilliant Forza Horizon.  Developed by Playground Games and Turn 10, Horizon was published by Microsoft in October 2012.  Its the fifth game in the Forza series but unlike Forza Motorsport 1 to 4, Horizon is more of an arcade style driving game.

Horizon is an open road racer, it hosts around 300 cars that use the same car based physics engine from Forza 4, but has been optimized to work on the games 60 plus terrain types.  Racing in Horizon comes in all shapes and sizes, you have everything from rally to drift, point to point races and you even get to race against bi planes.  The game plays out over day and night cycle's and all single player events will have traffic on the roads to add a little more spice to proceedings.  This is a cracker of a game, it's lots of fun to play and will be available from the 1st to the 15th of the month.

Last up this month is Mirrors Edge.  Developed by EA Dice and published by EA in November 08, Mirrors Edge is a first person action adventure game that is set in a futuristic dystopian society. The game follows the story of Faith, who works with a team of "Runners", whose job is to courier messages around the city while trying to evade government surveillance and cops.

Gameplay in Mirrors Edge is very much inspired by Parkour, the controls allow you to wall run, roll, slide, duck in and out of vents, climb and jump from roof top to roof top as you try to pick your way through the very well put together puzzle like levels as smoothly as possible.  There are guns in the game but they play a very small role, instead the focus is on Faith and her abilities to avoid or disarm people as she goes.  Even today, the style and look of Mirrors Edge remains impressive, it is a lot of fun to play and if you have never given it a blast you can download it for nothing from the 16th to the 30 of the month.
