Fable Legends Cancelled

Anyone looking forward to the upcoming game Fable Legends from developer Lionhead Studios is in for a horrible shock. Its been cancelled and it looks like Lionhead is to be shuttered by Microsoft.

Founded by Peter Molyneux in 1996 and famous for creating the brilliant god sim Black & White and of course the Fable games that have being exclusive to Xbox since Microsoft bought the company back in 2006.

This announcement is completely out of the blue to everyone, not least the folks over at Lionhead as Fable Legends was primed to be a major release by Microsoft as it tries to close the sales gap on the unstoppable juggernaut that is the PS4.

At lasts weeks Xbox Spring Showcase, Phil Spencer was asked about the progress of Fable Legends. His answer certainly didn't give the impression that the game was about to be cancelled. He had the following to say.

"I think we could do many things with Fable. I think the world of Albion and the hero-based nature of that game could show up in many different spaces"

He continues to say, "it's been in beta for a while, and we're watching the engagement numbers. The thing around Legends that I'm committed to is I want to make sure its release matches the expectations in terms of quality that our customers deserve. So it's not about releasing something because it's on a poster, because there was a date posted somewhere."

"The team's really committed to what they're doing with Fable right now"

So there you go folks, an absolute incredible shock and loss to the industry and one of the most anticipated games of the year on Xbox One is now scrapped and will not see the light of day.  Sad day, you will be missed Lionhead.
