Call Of Duty 2 Goes Backwards Compatible
Great news for COD fans out there, Call Of Duty 2 has being given the backwards compatibility treatment and is now available to play on your Xbox One. Developed by Infinity Ward, published by Konami in Japan would you believe and by Activision in the rest of the world, COD 2 was actually released way back in November 2005 as a launch game for the Xbox 360. Now nearly 11 years later we get a chance to blast through again and ask ourselves, what the hell have I be doing with myself for the last decade?
COD 2 is of course set in World War 2, which is a novelty these days, but ten years ago it seemed that every second FPS that came out was set in WW2. The game is spread over 27 missions, these missions are divided up into 3 separate campaigns. The Soviet campaign see's you face off against the Germans in places like Moscow and Stalingrad. The British campaign is set in Africa and the American campaign will see you start on the beaches of Normandy on D Day and fight your way inland as you push the Nazi army back towards Germany. This was a cracking game back in the day, the story and the action kept you hooked. It looked great for the time too, the 3 different story arcs kept the game's visuals fresh and interesting at all times, from the deserts of Africa to the destroyed streets of Stalingrad, COD 2 was a joy to behold.
When it first hit the shelves, COD 2 did suffer from some framerate issues on a few of the levels but thanks to the added power of the Xbox One the game is now locked at 60 fps throughout but of course the resolution is still only 720p. I'm a little surprised that this has being made backwards compatible, considering that Infinity Ward is set to release COD Infinity in a few short months time which will come with a remastered version of the best COD game of them all in my opinion in Modern Warfare. Unlike Red Dead Redemption, which saw a massive increase in sales when it got the BC treatment, I just can't see people buying this but I suppose if you already have a copy on disc or own it digitally then it is most definitely worth another look, just so you can remind yourself of what a great COD game was like and also see how much the series has falling away over the last few years. Very sad, or maybe I'm just getting very old.
