Backwards Compatibility – Multi Disc Games Are Go

Back at last years E3, Microsoft announced to the delight of everyone (except Sony) that it was bringing backward compatibility to the Xbox One, basically they managed to build a 360 emulator inside the Xbox One.  Backward compatibility was the number one requested feature that fans were asking for to be brought to the Xbox One.  When the announcement was made, Microsoft promised that they would deliver over one hundred 360 titles to the launch of the program, which began toward the end of last year.

This came as a shock to just about everyone, as the Redmond giant had previously stated that it was impossible to play 360 games on the Xbox One because of the difference in hardware between the two machines.  Shortly afterwards, Xbox fans found out that not all games would be suitable for backwards compatibility, the games in question were multi disc titles like Mass Effect 2 and 3.  Microsoft claimed that this was in fact yet again just impossible to accomplish, but it seems that the engineers at Microsoft have yet again achieved the "impossible", as multi disc games will now be added to the backwards compatibility catalogue.

The first 360 multi disc title that is available on the Xbox One is Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Directors Cut.  I have not played the Directors Cut, but the regular version of the game is brilliant, it sucks you right in, it's very well put together in my opinion and well worth a look if it has never crossed your path.

Backwards compatibility is the one of the few features that the Xbox One has over the PS4, it works pretty well for most titles and the library of games just keeps getting bigger all the time.  With the addition now of multi disc games being added, we can now look forward to the likes of Mass Effect 2 and 3 getting the backwards compatibility treatment hopefully someday soon too.
