Rumour: Halo Infinity Not Halo 6 To Be Announced At E3
It has been three years since 343 Industries released Halo 5 and everyone, myself included, are eagerly awaiting any news on Halo 6.
With E3 just around the corner, Xbox fans were hoping to finally get a chance to see it in action during Microsoft’s E3 press conference. The good news is, we still might but rumours doing the rounds at the minute might suggest that 343 are planning to unveil a brand new Halo game at the show.
The game in question is called Halo Infinity and news of its existence was giving to us by Brad Sams, editor of Thurott.com, a very respected web site which has been on the ball in the past when dealing with gaming rumours.
Sams states in his tweets that
A new Halo game at e3, possibly called Halo Infinity. Obv, things could change here but that’s the word the street.
The word on the street has often changed in the past so it’s best to take this news with a pinch of salt.
If true though, what kind of game might Halo Infinity be. Considering the success of battle royale games already out, PUBG and Fortnite are leading the way and taking in huge amounts of cash in the process, it might be a safe bet to assume that Microsoft are set to cash in on the very popular genre.
Both COD and Battlefield will have battle royale modes when they launch later this year, so it would be no surprise to me at all if Microsoft used their flagship title to test the battle royale waters.
Of course, Microsoft might want to go in a different way and Halo Infinity could end up being another side story in the Halo universe, like ODST and Reach. Personally, I can’t see that happening though, with 343 deep in development for Halo 6, getting another fully fledged story finished would put too much pressure on the folks at 343, while a multiplayer only title might be a bit more doable.
If Halo Infinity does turn out to be a real thing I’m afraid it will come at the cost of Halo 6 being shown at E3. I just can’t imagine Microsoft splitting their Halo fanbase unless, Halo Infinity launches before the years end and Halo 6 is scheduled for release in time for Christmas next year. The good news is we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out more, E3 is almost here and it can’t come fast enough.
What do you think folks, would you like to see a Halo battle royale game or would you rather 343 just got Halo 6 out. Please feel free to leave any Halo related thoughts you have in the comments below.
