Mortal Shell, A New Souls-Like Action RPG Arrives Later This Year

Mortal Shell is a new Souls-like action RPG. The game is been developed by Cold Symmetry and will be published by Playstack. It will be released later this year for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

If you are a fan of Dark Souls, BloodBorne or Sekiro then Mortal Shell is going to be right up your street. Yesterday, Cold Symmetry and Playstack released a reveal trailer for it and it looks absolutely stunning. You can check it out for yourself below.

Thankfully, most of the trailer consists of gameplay action so you really get a sense of what Mortal Shell is all about. The combat looks incredibly visceral, the tone is hauntingly dark. The game world is nothing short of beautiful. And the enemies you battle against will send shivers down your spine. It looks jaw dropping.

What’s even more impressive is that Mortal Shell is being built by a core team of 15 seriously talented AAA developers. It’s a game that the developers would want to play themselves and hopefully that passion and dedication comes across in the final package.

To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.

Ambitious

Mortal Shell is shaping up to be a very ambitious project. Cold Symmetry are promising strategic combat based on precision in both attack and defence. The campaign will be non-linear. This will give players the freedom to make their way through the games many crafted worlds as they see fit. It also includes a deep upgrade system, so that players can better overcome the many challenges that lie in wait for them.

While Mortal Shell is a another new Souls-like action RPG, it’s one that might give Dark Souls and co a run for their money. To be honest, I don’t play many of these titles myself. I simply lack the skill set and patience to truly enjoy them. But Mortal Shell has me interested right off the bat. The trailer is breathtaking and it has me genuinely excited for when the game releases later this year.
