Mafia 3: Definitive Edition Update Is Free To All Mafia 3 Owners On Xbox
Mafia 3: Definitive Edition is free to anyone that already owns a copy of the 2016 classic on Xbox, PS4 and Steam and it is available right now.
Mafia Trilogy
2K Games recently announced Mafia: Definitive Edition, a complete rebuild of the original game for modern day hardware, which will be available on all platforms on August 28. Mafia: Definitive Edition will come as both a stand alone purchase and as part of the Mafia: Trilogy.
Mafia: Trilogy, as you have probably guessed, contains all three games from this long running and critically acclaimed franchise. Both Mafia 2 and 3 will also be getting Definitive Editions versions. The Definitive Editions sees both games receiving a HD remaster, but not a total rebuild like the original is getting, and it also contains all the DLC for both titles.
If you own Mafia 2 and 3 on Steam, then you will get both updated versions for free. Unfortunately, console players will only be getting the Definitive Edition of Mafia 3 free of charge. So if you do own it on console, Mafia 3 should update and download the DLC automatically. This is true for both the digital and physical versions of the game.
Mafia 3 has three story DLC packs. Faster Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times. The DLC, as well as two Gear packs, will be free to all who already own the game, or for those who are going to buy it in the future on either console or Steam.
Reasons
This is good news for those that already own Mafia 3. Why console players are not also receiving the free update for Mafia 2 is a bit baffling though. Having it exclusive to Steam is a bit of a slap in the face to console players who own it.
I’m sure 2K games have their reasons but they haven’t offered any explanation as of why just yet. It might be a case of it not been ready for the Xbox One and PS4 right now and it will be added further down the road. We’ll have to wait and see so console players keep your fingers crossed for that.
