Gears 5 Is Set For A Next Gen Makeover On The Xbox Series X/S
Gears 5 is set for a next gen makeover on the Xbox Series X/S. On top of all the next gen goodies, Gears 5 will also receive new campaign DLC in December for all versions of the game.
The next generation is getting very close now, so close we can almost taste it. Sure, the launch lineup is not the most spectacular in history but the folks over at the Coalition are hard at work to ensure that the year old Gears 5 will look and feel very much next gen.
In a recent interview with IGN, the Coalition outlined what they had in store for Gears fans come November 10. Follow the link to read the full piece from IGN.
Campaign
Starting with the campaign, the Coalition are adding a New Game+ mode. This will include two new difficulty levels named Ironman and Inconceivable. We will also get new character and weapon skins along with a Big Head mode and new achievements.
Speaking of new skins, Dave Batista will be making his debut in the campaign. He can be used as an optional skin for Marcus Fenix complete with voice over.
Of course players will also see a huge boost to visual fidelity. Gears 5 will now have contact shadows along with screen spaced global illumination. The campaign cinematics will now run at a buttery smooth 60fps as opposed to 30fps on current gen hardware.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer will also see a major overhaul. Gears 5 will now support up to 120fps on both the Series X and S.
The Coalition have also spent a lot of time reducing latency across all systems including the base Xbox One. And of course Cross-play will still be intact with Xbox One, Series X/S and PC players all being able to hook up online.
The icing on the cake for Gears fans has to be the announcement of Hivebusters. The new 3-4 hour campaign DLC will arrive in December. It will feature a new playable squad in Team Scorpio. Whether we will be charged for this DLC has yet to be decided, but we should know more in early December.
Powerhouse
Gears 5 is already a graphical powerhouse on the Xbox One X. On the Series X the game will surpass the launch ultra specs on PC. With the addition of 120fps for multiplayer, Gears 5 is shaping up to be a must have all over again on the Series X.
