Inside

Inside is the spiritual successor to the 2010 hit game Limbo.  It is being developed by PlayDead and published by Microsoft Studios, it is set for release on the 29th of June on Xbox One and Windows PC.  We got to see a sneak peak of Inside during Microsoft's recent press conference at E3, the game is very much in the same vain as Limbo but this is by no means a criticism of it, Limbo is bloody brilliant after all.

So what is Inside?  Like Limbo, it is a side scrolling puzzle platform game.  This is no Mario clone, but a very stylised, dark and in some places, a rather disturbing experience.  So far, so Limbo but there is differences between the two.  The first thing I noticed when I seen the video shown during E3 was that Inside has far more colour in it, Limbo uses just black and white to set the tone for each of it's levels, Inside also has far much more going on in the backgrounds, you can see cars chasing you, people that seem to be under some sort of mind control are walking about, you get to see much more of the environment that you are exploring, cityscapes and countryside settings pop up in some of the gameplay videos that I've watched.  The backgrounds are far more alive than what we have seen in Limbo.

One thing that does remain the same between the two games it seems, is the brutal nature of the deaths that both titles nameless protagonist suffers time and time again.  In Limbo you get sliced in half a lot, crushed by boulders a good bit, attacked by giant spiders from time to time and sometimes you even get caught in mantraps, PlayDead had put a lot of thought into how you met your maker and it looks like Inside will continue the trend.  The puzzle element was a big strong point in Limbo, with a bit of luck Inside continues this trend too.  The puzzles were never to difficult in Limdo but some near the end will leave you scratching your head for a bit.

This game is out in two days time, the few people that have been lucky enough to play it already have said that it is brilliant, there are no reviews out for it yet due to an embargo but it looks like PlayDead have another winner on its hands.  For those of you that have not played Limbo yet, I strongly advise that you download it right now, its free on the Xbox One and on Stream.  Go discover folks, Inside is out on the 29th, that gives you about two days to finish Limbo.
