ReCore

ReCore was first shown to the world at Microsoft's E3 conference last year.  The game is being developed by Comcept and Armature Studios, it will be published by Microsoft when it hits the shelves on the 13th of September in North America and on the 16th of September in Europe.  ReCore will be released on both the Xbox One and on Windows PC, actually it will be part of the new Play Anywhere Program, meaning if you buy it from the market place on the Xbox Store, your one copy of the game will allow you to play it on the Xbox One and also on your Windows PC.

So why should we all be excited for ReCore?  Well I have two games for you, Metroid Prime and Mega Man.  You see, Armature Studio has lots of the staff that worked on the GameCube masterpiece Metroid Prime, including Mark Pacini, the games director, and Comcept was set up by Keiji Inafune, one of the main people behind the Mega Man series.  We have two very talented teams working on ReCore here, I haven't spent too much time on Mega Man over the years but I did plough a lot of time into Metroid Prime back in the day, it was a brilliant game, probably the best the GameCube had to offer so I certainly have high hopes for this.

ReCore will be a 3rd person action adventure title, the game starts as your character, Joule Adams wakes from cryosleep only to find that her entire terra forming mission has gone completely wrong.  Almost all of the robots have turned against her and she finds herself as one of the last surviving humans alive on the distant planet of Far Eden.  She will not alone in her mission to put everything right again, in her quest she will accompanied by 3 robots, Mack, Seth and Duncan, all with their own special abilities to help Joule with puzzle solving and combat along the way. In fact, Mack, Seth and Duncan form part of the puzzle aspect in the game, only one can be used at any one time because you have only one Core to power them, so figuring out which one of your robot buddies is best suited to the given situation as you progress is all part of the challenge of ReCore.

Of course Joule is not entirely useless, she takes care of most of the combat in game and to help her along she is armed with a rather massive gun.  ReCore uses a Lock On system to target bad guys, from what I've read, it's very similar to what's found in Metroid Prime, you can cycle through your targets to pick of the most dangerous one's first and I believe that certain ammo types work better on certain enemies, so it's a matter of cycling through enemies and also your ammo types to take out whatever stands in your way as efficiently as possible.

ReCore might very well prove to be a massive hit for Microsoft, it certainly has two teams of very gifted developers on board, it's also only going to be priced at £29.99 when it comes out next month, this came as bit of a shock to me, I was convinced that this was going to be a full price title, at only £29.99 maybe folks out there will be more inclined to pick it up.  Not long to wait now, ReCore comes to life on the 13th of September in the good old US of A.
