PS4 On Top Again In February
The NDP sales figures are out for February and it looks like yet again that the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One for the month in the US, although neither company has released exact numbers regarding their consoles.
Around $840 million was spent on physical games, which is about a 12% drop off against the same period last year in the US. Hardware took a massive hit too with around $290 million been spent by customers which represents a whooping 23% drop in sales against last years numbers. I'd imagine the main cause for the collapse in hardware figures is due to faster and faster decline of both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of units sold.
As usual the PS4 enjoyed a bigger slice of the months sales pie but unusually for Sony it didn't give us a breakdown of the figures involved. It did however release this official statement thanking fans for their continued support.
We would like to thank our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling hardware platform and the software sales leader in February, according to NDP. We continued to see strong year-over-year sales growth for PS4 hardware and software and are truly humbled by the support and enthusiasm from gamers.
As ever Microsoft were as vague as always regarding its figures, it instead issued a statement giving us a percentage breakdown of its exclusive games numbers and hours spent on Live, they had the following to say.
Compared to February 2015, exclusive Xbox One U.S. game sales drove a 49 percent increase and the total number of hours spent gaming on Xbox One worldwide rose 93 percent.
