The Console Version Of Project Cars 2 Will Look Its Best On Xbox One X
Project Cars 2 will make full use of the extra power that's available with the Xbox One X. This was confirmed by Slightly Mad Studios Game Director Stephen Viljoen in a recent interview with trustedreviews.com where he talks about the differences between the PS4 Pro, PC and the Xbox One X versions of their game (just follow the link to read the full piece).
During the interview Viljoen was asked about what differences we can expect to find between the various platforms. He explains that the core gameplay and overall feel of Project Card 2 will be more or less identical on all platforms, but keeping the physics and handling uniform across all systems was a major challenge for his team.
We don’t want people, based on the platform they choose, to have a lesser experience with the physics fidelity. It needs to be the same level of detail and accuracy as what we have on the high end platform on PC.
Viljoen then went on to say that it's Slightly Mad Studios aim to push each platform as much as they can. On PC for example, it's possible to run Project Cars 2 in 4K across three screens, this is way beyond the reach of any console of course but Viljoen stated that we can expect to see a significant, noticeable difference in visual fidelity between the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X versions thanks to the much better and more powerful hardware found inside Microsoft's soon to be released Xbox One X.
I can’t tell you exactly what all the various sliders will be at when you’re on Xbox One X versus on PS4 Pro, but obviously they’ll be higher, so there will be a significant, a noticeable improvement, because you have better hardware.
For me, I'm delighted Slightly Mad Studios have taken this approach. If the Xbox One X is to be a success, Microsoft needs to push third party developers to get the most from their machine. In the absence of any exclusives, the Xbox One and the X will share the same software after all. It's incredibly important in my opinion, that Microsoft at the very least guarantee that all third party games run and look better on the X.
Sony has enjoyed runaway success this gen thanks to their endless stream of exclusive titles coming out for the PS4 and the fact that just about every single game that gets released on both the PS4 and the Xbox One ends up looking better on the PS4. This needs to change if Microsoft's hopes to turn their fortunes around in the coming years and the Xbox One X might be the perfect machine to get the ball rolling again.
