My Top 2 Games For The Month – August

We are right smack bang in the middle of the month of August but luckily for us the best games have still yet to be released.  With that in mind lets take a look at 2 games that I'm really looking forward to getting my hands this month.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Developed by Eidos Montreal, published by Square Enix and set for release on the 23rd of the month, Mankind Divided's story takes place in 2029, which is a few years after the "Aug Incident" at the end of Human Revolution, which resulted in the deaths of millions of people at the hands of those with installed augmentations.  Once again you will play as Adam Jensen, now working for Interpol looking to track down a group of augmented terrorists.

Like Human Revolution, the latest Deus Ex will allow you to play from both a 1st and 3rd person perspective, hacking and stealth will also play a major role in the game as Mankind Divided will try and build on the very solid control base from Human Revolution.  Having only really played bits and pieces of Deus Ex throughout the years, I can't comment too much on the quality of the series as a whole, but I can say this, Human Revolution is a brilliant game.  From the word go I just loved it, the controls are smooth, the stealth system works, you can get from A to B without the AI somehow magically seeing you and shooting you in the face 17 times, the combat is solid and satisfying, the guns pack a satisfying thump, the cyber punk look to the game, suits it down to the ground and the atmosphere completely sucks you in and keeps you interested in the story.

It's because I love Human Revolution so much that I have massive expectations of Mankind Divided, for those of you out there that have yet to give it a blast, do yourselves a favour and pick it up.  It really stands out when I look back on the best games I played on the 360.  When I look back in a few years time upon best games that I played on the Xbox One, I really hope that Mankind Divided stands out.  Come on Eidos Montreal, you got this, give us another blockbuster.

Assetto Corsa

Developed by Kunos Simulazioni and being published by 505 Games on the Xbox One and PS4, Assetto Corsa is a simulation racing game with a very rich and respected PC heritage.  It is set for release on the 26th of the month in Europe and on the 30th in North America.  I wrote an article on this game some time back, you can check it out here if you fancy a look.

I like Forza, it's a fantastic game to experience, the gameplay is addictive, the racing can be very intense at times thanks to it's Drivatar system, it can also be bloody infuriating too thanks to that very same system, but it certainly adds a great deal of total randomness to the whole racing experience that's for certain, and in my opinion that's a good thing.  Assetto Corsa is a game in the same mould as Forza, but maybe just maybe it might have what it takes to slip past Forza on the inside and steal the sim racing game crown on the Xbox One.

I'm a huge fan of sim racing games, F1 games are my favourite.  The current title from Codemasters, F1 2016 is in my opinion the best racing game on the Xbox One.  The reason I'm so excited about Assetto Corsa so much is that I think it could be better than Forza, and maybe better than F1 2016 too, you might think that's crazy talk, this game is coming from a studio that has no real console history after all and that Forza has years of knowledge to build on and a fantastic game engine that has a proven track record of producing cracking visuals and rock solid car physics.  Forza is a formidable opponent alright but Assetto Corsa comes from the world of PC sim racing games.  This is a competitive genre on PC and as I said earlier, Assetto Corsa is a very well respected game in that genre.

The success of this game will depend on how well Kunos can translate the feel and overall driving experience from the PC to consoles. It has already been delayed a few times this year and I hope that's because they are polishing it up to be as good as it possibly can be and not because they are struggling to get to grips with console hardware restrictions.  I'm excited for this because it's a new IP for the Xbox One and that's a good thing and I'm excited because it will offer something fresh to the racing scene on the Xbox One and that's a good thing too.  Roll on the 26th, there may just be a new King in town.
