Remedy Announce New Deal With 505 Games

Remedy Entertainment was founded back in 1995 in Espoo, Finland. These are the folks that brought us classics such as Max Payne, Alan Wake and more recently Quantum Break on the Xbox One. Earlier today they announced that they have signed a new publishing deal with 505 Games and the pair will launch a brand new IP, codenamed Project, 7 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC sometime in the future.

This deal with 505 Games marks the beginning of a new era for Remedy, Alan Wake, released in 2010, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, was released two years later in 2012 (this acts as a stand alone expansion pack for the original) and Quantum Break, which was released in 2016, have all been published by Microsoft Studios and were exclusive to Xbox platforms over the last few years.

This new deal with 505 will see Remedy become a multi platform developer. The contract worth €7.75 million, which will go towards developing the new game and in turn will give 505 all publishing rights to Remedy's Project 7 upon its release. This includes rights to both the digital and retail forms of the game worldwide and includes a payment of 45% royalties on all net sales.

CEO of Remedy Tero Virtala had the following to say regarding the deal.

We have a strong vision of what P7 should be. 505 Games brings into this partnership experience and competences that help us successfully make this vision become reality together. Remedy is also investing in P7 and is deeply committed to creating an unique gaming experience that will keep the players engaged and playing for a long time to come. We are really excited to embark on this journey with 505 Games."

As for the new game Project 7 or P7 for short very little is known. There was nothing announced regarding a release date but on Remedy's website they gave this short but intriguing bit of information.

The new game, codenamed “Project 7” (P7) is a cinematic third person action game set in a new Remedy-created universe. Featuring an intriguing story and a game structure offering a long-lasting experience, P7 contains the deepest game mechanics yet in a Remedy game. The game is built on Remedy’s proprietary Northlight® technology.

This is good news for Remedy and the gaming community at large, they make very good games after all, but it will probably come as another kick in the teeth for some Xbox fans out there. The Xbox needs exclusives titles to get gamers attention again, after the cancellation of Scalebound and Fable, losing Remedy seems like another blow for Microsoft. Thankfully of course, we will still get to enjoy P7 when it finally gets released and here's hoping Remedy and 505 deliver another AAA classic whenever P7 hits the shop shelves.

What do you folks think, is this a blow to Microsoft or maybe you think Remedy are in a much better place going forward thanks to this deal? Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have on the story in the comments below.
