PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Is Up And Running On Xbox One X

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been a massive success since it launched through Steam's Early Access back in March. So far the 100 player battle royale sensation has sold around six million copies in its unfinished state and it recently hit over 400,000 simultaneous players on Steam. The runaway success of PUBG has made Irishman Brendan Greene (Mr PlayerUnknown himself) very wealthy and also a huge celebrity in gaming circles.

Although PUBG was announced for Xbox One back at E3 earlier this year, we still have very little new information about how the console version is shaping up. Actually, to be honest, we have no information at all, until now that is. In a recent interview with Eurogamer (follow the link to read the full interview, it's well worth your time) Greene talks mostly about how the game is progressing on PC but he was asked if they had tested the Xbox version on 100 man servers. His answer, yes they have. Greene had the following to say during the interview.

We have a version running on the Xbox One X prototype in the office which can plug into the online servers. We were playing on live servers on the console at about 30 or 40 FPS. So it works on 100 man servers.

Greene admits in the interview that their main focus is on finishing the PC version and getting it launched sometime in Q4 of this year. The Xbox version is been handled by a Spanish company called Anticto at this moment in time.

Now before people start going nuts about framerates and resolution on the Xbox One X. You have to realise that Anticto only has a five man team working on it so there is still bloody loads of time to get it fully optimised and up to speed on both the base Xbox One and the Xbox One X versions. Even at this early stage though, having it run at 30 FPS on a 100 man server is still pretty impressive in my opinion considering it won't launch till late Q1 2018 at the earliest on Xbox. With a bit of luck though we might see it enter Game Preview on Xbox by the end of this year. Fingers crossed everyone.

For me, I can't wait till PUBG lands on Xbox, I'll be picking it up straight away if it hits Game Preview. I have never played the PC version but I have watched and read enough about at this stage to know that it's right up my street. It promises to offer up something different in the FPS space on Xbox. Halo, Battlefield and COD are all great games in their own right, each one offers something different to the others and each has their own massive fanbases but PUBG might just blow all three out of water. 100 players, last man standing wins, even typing that gets me excited, I have never played anything like PUBG online before. Will it have the same lasting power as COD, Battlefield or Halo? Well, only time will tell of course but I can't wait to find out.

How about you, are you looking forward to PUBG on Xbox or maybe you are already playing it on PC. Please feel free to leave any PUBG thoughts you have in the comments below.
