Outlast 2

Outlast 2 is set for release in Q1 2017 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it's being developed and published by the Montreal based studio Red Barrels.  It is of course the follow up to Outlast, which was released back in 2013 by the same studio.  The game was actually due to come out around Halloween of this year but unfortunately it has slipped to early next year, but Red Barrels have released a timed demo that you can download till the 1st of November if you fancy giving it a go.

Outlast 2 ditches the confined and claustrophobic hallways of the psychiatric hospital from the original, for dark open spaces and ruined rural settings of the Arizona desert at night.  You play as investigative journalist Blake Langermann who is on the case of a murdered young pregnant women known only as Jane Doe.  Like the original, Blake is useless at combat, and the best course of action throughout the game is too collect your clues while avoiding contact with people as much as possible, you can hide in lockers and the like, again very much like the first game.  While looking for clues within the game, you'll also need to keep an eye out for batteries for your camcorder, it has night vision enabled and it will be the only thing allowing you to see what's happening in the spooky night scenes as you make your way through Outlast 2's dark as hell settings.  The batteries begin to drain as soon as you start using the night vision.  Blake also wears glasses, again your going to have problems seeing if they manage to get knocked of his face.

With the game being delayed till next year, hopefully Red Barrels use that time to polish up the gameplay and make Outlast 2 as good as it can possibly be.  The original was fun, not perfect by any means but it was filled with tension and dread.  I'm a sucker for these types of games, scary movies just don't do it for me at all but survival horror titles give me the chill every time.  I played the Resi 7 demo recently on the PS4, the first person view suits it down to the ground IMO and I think it might have taken a idea or two from Outlast also.  With Outlast 2 and Resident Evil 7 coming early 2017, it looks like its going to be one hell of a scary start to the new year.  Bring it on.
