Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares is being developed by Swedish company Tarsier Studios and will be published by Bandai Namco, the game is due out on the 28th of the month for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC and will use the Unreal Engine 4 to make it tick. Little Nightmares was first announced way back in 2014 under the name of Hunger and was at that time a PS4 exclusive. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, Tarsier couldn't find a publisher for it till Bandai Namco stepped in and signed a worldwide publishing deal. The name was changed and thankfully this fantastic looking puzzle/platformer is longer a PS4 only title.

The game revolves around a 9 year old girl named Six, she has been kidnapped from her home and sent to work in a underwater resort for the rich and powerful called the Maw. Thankfully, by sheer luck, Six finds herself with an opportunity to escape her terrible, dark, murky prison and try and find a way home. On her journey, Six will have plenty of platforms and puzzles to overcome as well as a bit of stealth action thrown in there to for good measure.

Little Nightmares, along with Limbo and Inside, form developer Playdead, are games that are right up my street. They all deliver a darker tone than most of your average puzzle/platformers out there and leave themselves very much open to interpretation. Of course, the inspiration for Little Nightmares is your dreams as a small child and the feelings that come with them, and like Limbo and Inside you play through the game as a child, which in itself, considering the look and nature of these games, is a little unsettling.

I have watched a few gameplay videos of Little Nightmares and I have to say that this game is going to put a lot of bigger budget titles to shame. Even just watching someone else giving it a blast feels you with tension and unease, how they have managed to cram so much atmosphere into it, through clever use of sound and visuals, is just a joy to behold, you can see that an awful lot of love and care has gone into creating a world filled with the most weird and wonderful characters.

Of course watching videos on YouTube and reading articles is one thing but how the game actually turns out, when its finished and out in the wild, is another. I'm very much excited for Little Nightmares though, I think we may have another platforming classic on our hands come the 28th of the month.

What do you guys think, are you looking forward to Little Nightmares or maybe you are just not a fan of this kinda thing. Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have in the comments below.
