I Am Bread

I Am Bread, the worlds best bread simulator some might say, will be out of the oven and ready to butter on the 20th of the month.  The game is being developed and published by Bossa Studios.  The London based developer is probably best known for their 2013 smash hit Surgeon Simulator.  I Am Bread was first released back in April 2015 on PC and on the PS4 in August of the same year.  The folks over at Bossa have had a lot of time to get the recipe right for its Xbox One debut so hopefully we get the best version available.

I Am Bread puts you in control of a slice of bread.  The goal is simple, guide our sliced hero through the various levels until he or she is fully toasted.  The game world that you explore is a typical family home, in game levels consist of different rooms with in that home.  You don't have to actually use a toaster to do the toasting either.  You can use hair dryers, irons and more to achieve that golden colour but you have to be careful where you tread.  In game you have what is called a "edibility" meter.  If you land on the floor or in water your "edibility" meter will decrease, if it reaches zero you are brown bread.

I Am Bread also contains various other game modes and breads types for you to get your teeth into.  In Bagel Race you get to indulge your need for speed.  You race through the checkpoints in the games many levels, as a bagel no less, trying to achieve the fastest time possible.  Cheese Hunt see's you take control of crisp-bread.  The aim is to cover yourself in as much cheese as possible before you shatter and break apart.  Rampage has you smash through the house causing as much damage as you can using a baguette as your tool of destruction and finally Zero G mode. This time you will have boosters attached to your bread which you must use very carefully.  Your aim here is to navigate the levels taking care not to crash into any of the floating debris.  I Am Bread will also feature a Free Mode, in this mode you can explore the house to your hearts content using any of the breads that you have unlocked.

I Am Bread received mixed reviews when it was released back in 2015.  The biggest complaints levelled against it were the dodgy controls.  Getting the bread to navigate the world takes some getting used to I believe but as they say, practice makes perfect.  As I mentioned at the start, hopefully they have ironed out the little kinks in the controls because it looks like it could be a great game to play. With a bit of luck the Xbox One version will be the best of the bunch. I Am Bread will be fresh on the shelves come the 20th of the month.
