Everspace On Xbox One

Everspace is the brand new game on the Xbox One which is being developed and published by the Hamburg based ROCKFISH Games.  It is set to get its full release around March of next year but it has recently just entered the Game Preview program on the Xbox One.  Game Preview on the Xbox is very similar to Steam's Early Access, it allows you to buy the game at a reduced price but be warned, the game is still in development, so you will be paying for an unfinished product.  If you want to give it a try, you are allowed to play it for one hour for free to test it out.  Everspace will also be the first ID@Xbox Play Anywhere title, which basically means that if you buy for the Xbox One now, you will also get the Windows PC version for free when it comes out, you will also be able to carry over all your saves and progress with Play Anywhere.

Everspace is a very fast paced rogue-like space shooter.  The game is packed full of breath taking space vista's, I had a blast for the free hour that's available and I can tell you that the visuals will certainly catch your eye, the light from the planet in the tutorial bounces of the asteroids as you approach, you will also see it reflect of your ship if your playing it in 3rd person, the backgrounds gives the experience a great sense of scale as you travel around from objective to objective in your tiny one man ship.  The controls are smooth, I play a good bit of Elite Dangerous on the Xbox so it took me a few minutes to get to grips with them, but they are intuitive and well designed for the tasks at hand.  As I only had an hour I can't comment to much on how the gameplay all fits together, I spent most of my time just blasting at asteroids and speeding around getting used to the control setup, but what I can say is that I had a lot of fun just doing that so I'm very hopeful that the full game will have plenty to offer.

As I said at the start, this is an unfinished game but ROCKFISH Games have promised a lot more content will be added to it in the coming months.  New Stations, new planet types and extra ships will all be added to Everspace over the next while and when the full finished game finally arrives, you can look forward to a fully voice acted story, a hardcore mode and if you are going to be playing this on PC, you'll be treated to a full VR experience to boot.  Michael Schade, the CEO and co founder of ROCKFISH had the following to say about his companies first stab at console gaming on the Xbox One.

Thanks to our friends at ID@Xbox, we had the fantastic opportunity to demo EVERSPACE to Xbox and PC gamers at pretty much every major games show since GDC earlier this year.  We cannot wait to launch our very first console game ever on Xbox One and offer PC gamers on Windows 10 a fantastic deal through buy once, play anywhere.

So there you have it folks, if you have an Xbox One, go to the games store and head for the Game Preview section to see for yourself if its something you'd like to have a crack at, you get to play for an hour for free so no risk or harm giving it the once over.
